Library 2.0/thing 18

I read several of the articles listed in the discovery exercise for thing 18. I can't think of anything to add. I love Library 2.0 and embrace it as wholeheartedly as I can. I use lots of Web 2.0 tools here at work. For example, I am sitting in the workroom at Highland Park Library checking in new books. And I am listening to the Current on the computer while I work. The DJ just announced that Amy Winehouse was in trouble again. So I went to my old number fourteen blog--this very one you're reading now--and went to my del.icio.us widget and clicked on the "guardian" tag. That took me to the Guardian newspaper link in my del.icio.us account, where I was able to get updated information on the Amy Winehouse situation. You'll be relieved to know she's been released from police custody. I'm just saying!

Boxxet/Thing 22

I explored Boxxet.com, a site on the Web 2.0 awards list. I found a "Boxxet" for a sleazy program I like to watch called Footballers' Wives. The boxxet is just a list of posts that mention Footballers's Wives and the actors who are in it. I'm not enough of a fan to have a use for this site.

Rollyo/thing 15

I created my own search tool with Rollyo. Here it is for what it's worth: my favorite beers. I don't think I will ever use this site for anything. But I know where it is and what it does. I added a picture of the Good Beer Guide 2008 to this post because I like the way pictures break up all the text.

A few useful blogs and/or news feeds/thing 12

I found a few useful blogs and/or news feeds. For example, this is one of my favorite blogs in the whole wide world: Dear Phil. It's useful, too; it keeps me in stitches at the information desk, which is very important in this business!

RSS feeds/thing 11

Okay, I set up my bloglines account and subscribed to some feeds. But I don't know how to have my bloglines feeds come to my blog instead of my having to go to bloglines to look at them. Oh, well. I also can't figure out how to get RSS feeds to come to my blog. I will keep trying to figure it out.

Library thing/thing 14

I have been hearing about library thing for a couple of years now. I haven't used it because Saint Paul Public Library is my library--I don't buy books very often, I check them out instead. I still created an account. And I do actually own one of the books I listed!

Tags/thing 17

I added tags to most of my old blog posts. I like the tags in the booked in st. paul blog because I can use them to see how many annotations I have on that blog. I see that János has posted more than I have--!

things 21 and 23

Thing 21:

I am creating these posts (thing 21 and 23) in Zoho Writer.

Thing 23:

What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey? My favorite exercise was creating my blog and then looking at everyone else's blog.

How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals? This program has enabled me to try lots of applications I wouldn't otherwise have tried.

Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you? I am working on a wiki around my trip to England. I don't have to know html to make a web page.

What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept? Nothing--it was a blast.

If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again chose to participate? Yes, I would love to participate!

I added a post to the sppl sandbox wiki/thing 20

That was fun. I "played" in the sppl sandbox wiki. Oops, I forgot to add my blog to the favorite blogs page in the sandbox wiki but I just did.

I made a wiki for my trip to England/thing 19

I made a wiki for my trip to England but it isn't quite ready for prime time yet.

My daemon is a mouse! Yuck.

Hey, I have a daemon, too. Deb has a pretty bird and I have a dirty old mouse! (What thing is this?) --Oh, good, my daemon has morphed into a kitty. Maybe the kitty ate the mouse? In any case, I'd much rather have a cat daemon than a mouse.
